Getting help for your anxious teenager
As your teenagers navigate the ups and downs of adolescence, it's natural to encounter bumps along the way. If you're here, it might be because you've noticed your teen grappling with anxiety — a common experience that can sometimes feel overwhelming for both them and you.
First and foremost, take a deep breath. You're not alone in this. Help is here for you and your teenager. I specialise in supporting teenagers and their families through their anxiety journey. I understand that every teen is unique, and so are their experiences with anxiety. That's why I take a personalised approach to therapy, using tools like mindfulness, talking therapy and creative interventions to engage your teenager and help them learn to cope.
I know that reaching out for help can feel like a daunting step, but rest assured, you've already taken the first courageous stride towards supporting your teen's wellbeing. I create a safe and non-judgmental space where your teenager can express themselves freely, explore their emotions, and learn valuable coping strategies to navigate life's challenges with resilience.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety is a feeling of fear, worry, panic or dread about something. It’s our bodies’ normal, natural response to situations of threat or danger and is common to experience at stressful moments in a teenager’s life such as changing schools, during exams or before giving a presentation. Most normal anxiety goes away quickly - perhaps after a few hours or a day. Anxiety becomes problematic when it goes on for a long time (weeks, months or longer), is very intense or overwhelming or stops your teenager from being able to enjoy the normal things in life like spending time with friends or going to school.
Young Minds has more information about anxiety which you can share with your teenager.
